Inspired By the Old West and Nature
When designing our home, I knew a few things. I wanted to come home to a space that told our story; a home that felt welcoming and comfortable, not too fussy since we have small children, but still with thoughtful design.
With that said, building from the ground up on a flat piece of land was a “sky’s the limit” type of project-which translates to a million decisions. To narrow my ideas and vision, I began sifting through every design magazine I could get my hands on and clipping images and articles that moved me to create a physical mood board. Of course, I still used Pinterest (see HOME board here), but I wanted a place to add textures like fabric and flooring samples. After going through this exercise it was easier to focus down on what I was really drawn to. I learned that high ceilings and big windows were important since winter months in Wyoming can be very long and cabin fever is a real thing. I also wanted a barn house vibe while maintaining a level of cozy.
The project took two years to complete from land acquisition (purchased from a friend with no realtor fees) to our Certificate of Occupancy. It is still a work in progress as most labors of love are.
I learned from the process that I draw much of my design aesthetic from the Old West, I strive for a collected look reflecting travels and history. I aim to create authenticity in my design since life is not perfect and that is what makes it beautiful.
