SPRING RIVER TEA PARTY
We have all been talking about silver linings during these pandemic moments at home and for me it is spending time with my children. A few boys from our community built a teepee in the river bottom and while the water is low before the dam is open, is easily passible with small children. The weather was brilliant so the kids and I packed up a simple picnic and decided to give it a go. We strapped on our rubber boots and loaded the necessities into the picnic basket.
Miller and Sawyer were very brave and foraged the river with little hesitation resulting in soggy socks. We meandered through small cottonwood shoots, growing willow bushes, down trees that had been swept from the North, sandy swales, and lots of rocks. The teepee location was magic: a private beach with a rock circle fire pit on the banks of the Snake River.
The kids immediately began to peel the layers off and their imaginations soared creating fairy forts, soups and other sandy dishes, and mandala art in the sand.
This spring we have been drinking a lot of tea and I thought a tea party on the banks of the snake river would be a fun idea. I filler our Mizu thermos with mint tea, milk and honey. I made a plate of radish and butter crostini topped with sea salt, a simple salad and for dessert mini lemon bundt cakes.
It was a simple and rejuvenating afternoon in playing in nature, which resulted in a bit of a sunburn and beautiful memories
